In the current political climate of Tamil Nadu, the ongoing verbal assaults from leaders of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) have sparked widespread controversy and public outcry. Sattai Duraimurugan and Seeman, two prominent figures within the NTK, have repeatedly used foul and abusive language against key political leaders, particularly targeting the late Chief Minister Karunanidhi, current Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, and Udhayanidhi Stalin, among others in the DMK.

The situation has reached a boiling point, with many questioning the inaction of the Tamil Nadu government. Despite the blatant use of derogatory language and baseless accusations on public platforms, the government has yet to take any significant steps to address these inflammatory remarks.

Recently, NTK leader Seeman escalated the situation further during a press meet, where he responded to Trichy SP Varun Kumar IPS’s announcement that a defamation lawsuit would be filed against two NTK officials for Rs. 2 crores. This came after the Trichy police took action against Sattai Durai Murugan, who had made defamatory comments about the late Karunanidhi. Seeman, instead of showing restraint, chose to double down on the offensive, criticizing Varun Kumar and making it clear that he would continue to resist legal actions with defiance.

In a press statement, SP Varun Kumar revealed that he had issued a civil and criminal notice through his lawyer to Seeman for slandering him during a press conference. He stated, “As a civil servant, I performed my duty within the framework of the law, yet I was met with personal attacks, not only against me but also against my family members, including women and children, on social media platforms. These posts were filled with obscene and slanderous content, yet the perpetrators have shown no remorse or offered any apology. They have not removed the offensive posts. While I can handle such attacks as a law enforcement officer, I cannot tolerate the distress caused to my family. Therefore, my wife and I have decided to temporarily withdraw from social media, not out of fear, but to protect our family’s peace of mind. However, I assure you that those responsible will face the full force of the law.”

In a heated response during a press conference yesterday in Trichy, Seeman retorted, “I am already entangled in 138 cases. Do you think adding more will make a difference? Perhaps they want me to hit a double century in legal cases and make history! You are an IPS officer, so focus on your job and stop acting as the IT wing of the DMK. I’ve faced tougher battles, not just against individuals but against entire regimes, including the Indian government itself. What do you think a few more cases will do to me? I’ll simply tear up whatever you send and throw it in the dustbin.”

The audacity of Seeman’s statements raises serious concerns about the lawlessness and lack of accountability among some political leaders in Tamil Nadu. His remarks about the 2026 Assembly elections further added fuel to the fire. When asked whether he would form an alliance with actor Vijay, Seeman quipped, “You ask me this question because you think you can corner me. When Vijay holds a public meeting and announces his party, ask him that question. Those who used to criticize me are now targeting Vijay. I’m tired of these endless criticisms.”

The ongoing silence from the Tamil Nadu government in the face of such blatant disregard for civil discourse and legal norms is troubling. The absence of any strong response only emboldens these leaders, who continue to degrade public dialogue with their abusive language and inflammatory rhetoric. As the political environment in Tamil Nadu becomes increasingly toxic, the question remains: How long will the government remain a mute spectator to this descent into chaos?
