Renowned actor Nayanthara and filmmaker Vignesh Shivan have transformed a sprawling 7,000-square-foot colonial-style bungalow in Chennai into an exquisite home studio. In an exclusive feature with Architectural Digest (AD) India, the couple unveiled their elegantly refurbished space, showcasing a blend of heritage charm and modern rustic aesthetics.
A Colonial Masterpiece with Modern Touches
Nestled in the upscale neighborhood of Venus Colony, the couple’s studio exudes an old-world British charm, beautifully juxtaposed with contemporary elements. The interiors, redesigned by Nikhita Reddy of The Storey Collective, embrace high ceilings, expansive rooms, and glass facades that flood the space with natural light. Earthy tones dominate the decor, enhanced by handpicked traditional artifacts, wooden sculptures, linen fabrics, and rattan and teak wood furniture.
A visual treat for design enthusiasts, the bungalow features a harmonious mix of vintage appeal and modern comfort, creating a warm yet sophisticated atmosphere.
A Multi-Functional Creative Hub
More than just a residence, the bungalow serves as a fully functional creative studio for the couple’s professional pursuits. According to AD India, the space includes a conference room, a cozy lounge area for hosting guests and private gatherings, an outdoor backyard dining area, and a spacious outdoor section for unwinding. Additionally, the house is equipped with bedrooms for their team, a dedicated meeting room, and separate office spaces for Nayanthara and Vignesh to conduct their individual projects.
A Power Couple Balancing Work and Family
While curating a perfect creative sanctuary, Nayanthara remains actively engaged in multiple film projects. She is set to appear in Test, directed by S. Sashikanth, alongside Siddharth and R. Madhavan. The actor will also headline Mookuthi Amman 2, the much-anticipated sequel to her 2020 hit Mookuthi Amman, and is involved in Mahesh Narayanan’s period-action drama Rakkayie featuring Mohanlal and Mammootty.
Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, who tied the knot on June 9, 2022, are also proud parents to their twin sons, Uyir and Ulag.
Their beautifully restored home studio stands as a testament to their artistic vision—where creativity and personal life seamlessly merge in a space that is both functional and aesthetically captivating.
