Acclaimed Malayalam actor Suraj Venjaramoodu is all set to make his Tamil cinema debut with Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2, starring Chiyaan Vikram and directed by SU Arun Kumar. Despite spending nearly 25 years in the film industry and winning a National Award, Suraj faced a significant challenge when he joined the project—he did not speak Tamil.
A Bold Decision Despite the Language Barrier
Suraj, who has long admired both Vikram and Arun Kumar, jumped at the opportunity when offered a role in Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2. However, there was one major hurdle—he did not understand Tamil. When the director narrated the script, Suraj patiently listened but later admitted that he could not grasp the details. Nonetheless, after confirming with Arun that he was a good fit for the character, he readily agreed to be part of the film.
A Shocking Second Day on Set
Suraj’s initial experience on the set was relatively smooth, with his first scenes alongside SJ Suryah requiring minimal dialogue. However, on the second day, he was handed a thick script with extensive dialogues. To his shock, the sequence had to be filmed in a single take. Speaking about the moment in an interview with popular anchor DD, Suraj humorously recalled, “I felt like I had three heart attacks when I heard that.”
Jokingly, he admitted contemplating an escape but was deterred as the shoot was taking place deep in a forest. Eventually, he mustered the courage to perform the scene. Director Arun Kumar was so moved by his performance that he was in tears behind the monitor. When Suraj inquired about it, the director simply requested another take. To his astonishment, the entire setup was reset within half an hour despite it being 4 AM, and they reshot the scene. This time, Arun Kumar’s tears were of joy, affirming Suraj’s exceptional performance.
A Star-Studded Film Set for Release
Scheduled for a theatrical release on March 27, 2025, Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2 is an action-packed Tamil film featuring Chiyaan Vikram as Kaali, a provision store owner entangled in a crime network. The film, produced by Riya Shibu under HR Pictures, also stars SJ Suryah, Dushara Vijayan, and Siddique Mamathu.
A grand audio and trailer launch is set for March 20, 2025, at Vel Tech University, Avadi, Chennai. The film’s first installment, Veera Dheera Sooran Part 1, is yet to go into production.
Suraj’s Dedication Wins Praise
Director SU Arun Kumar lauded Suraj’s commitment to the role, revealing in a recent interview that the actor meticulously learned his Tamil dialogues in advance with the help of a translator. Despite his linguistic limitations, Suraj’s dialogue delivery was flawless, leaving no room for lip-sync issues in the film. Arun Kumar, a self-proclaimed fan of Suraj, expressed admiration for his professionalism and dedication.
Vikram Promises a Raw, Performance-Driven Film
Speaking about Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2, lead actor Vikram emphasized that the film will be raw and performance-centric, focusing on the layered characters rather than a traditional hero-villain dynamic. “Everyone has a bit of grey in them,” he noted, highlighting the depth of the storytelling.
