Sivakarthikeyan, who is riding high on the success of his recent blockbuster Amaran, is reportedly set to take on Tamil cinema’s superstar Thalapathy Vijay at the box office. Industry sources reveal that the actor’s upcoming film Parasakthi is being strategically planned for a Pongal 2026 release, coinciding with Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan.
A leading star in the Tamil film industry, Sivakarthikeyan currently has two major projects in the pipeline – Madharasi and Parasakthi. Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, Madharasi is an action-packed entertainer featuring Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film is in its final stages of production and is scheduled for a grand Diwali release this year.
Meanwhile, Parasakthi, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sudha Kongara, is being produced under the banner of Don Pictures. The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Sreeleela, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Basil Joseph. Shooting for the film commenced in Karaikudi and Chidambaram, with the latest schedule currently taking place in Sri Lanka. Based on true events, Parasakthi has G.V. Prakash Kumar composing its music, marking his 100th film as a composer. The film is also a milestone for Sivakarthikeyan, as it marks his 25th venture in the industry. The ambitious project is being bankrolled by Akash Bhaskaran with a massive production budget.
Sivakarthikeyan’s last release, Amaran, turned out to be a colossal success, grossing over ₹350 crore at the box office. The overwhelming response to the film has further elevated his status in the industry, with many seeing him as a contender for the top spot. This newfound momentum has seemingly emboldened him to take on a direct box-office battle with Thalapathy Vijay.
Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, his final film before venturing into politics, is slated for release during the Pongal 2026 festive period. Interestingly, producer Akash Bhaskaran has confirmed in a recent interview that Parasakthi is also eyeing the same release window.
