Four years after the release of the landmark Tamil film Karnan, director Mari Selvaraj is celebrating the film’s enduring legacy with a major announcement that has thrilled fans and cinephiles alike. Taking to social media, the acclaimed filmmaker revealed that he will be reuniting with actor Dhanush for a new venture tentatively titled D56.

Produced by Vels Film International and presented by Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, D56 is poised to be a gripping, emotionally charged cinematic experience. The film’s first-look poster — a striking image of a sword piercing through a skull, set against a backdrop of blood-red chaos — comes with the cryptic tagline: “Here Roots Begin a Great War,” suggesting themes of origin, conflict, and legacy.

“This has been on my mind for a long time,” wrote Mari Selvaraj, adding that the project is close to his heart. “It’s a joy to collaborate once again with my dearest Dhanush sir. I’m also extremely happy to be working for the first time with Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh. I believe this will be a thrilling experience.”

Fans of Karnan, which was widely praised for its raw portrayal of oppression and resilience, have expressed excitement over the reunion of the dynamic director-actor duo. D56 is expected to carry forward Selvaraj’s signature blend of socio-political commentary and powerful storytelling.

While details about the cast, crew, and plot remain under wraps, the evocative visual and bold tagline have already set the tone for what promises to be one of Tamil cinema’s most anticipated upcoming films.
