‘Powerhouse’ From Coolie Unleashed: Anirudh & Arivu Salute Rajinikanth With a Thumping Anthem & Breaking Bad Vibes

Coolie-Powerhouse-Rajinikanth-Superstar-Anirudh

Ramping up the promotions for Coolie, one of the most awaited Tamil films of the year, the makers unveiled its third single Powerhouse on all audio platforms on Tuesday. The track is a dynamic celebration of Superstar Rajinikanth’s character Deva, composed and sung by Anirudh Ravichander along with rapper-lyricist Arivu.

Powerhouse is a sonic and visual spectacle, introduced with a stylized animated lyric video filled with black-and-white visuals punctuated by striking red and gold motifs—representing the film’s gritty tone, opulence, and violence. The track, launched at a grand event in Hyderabad, was simultaneously performed live by Anirudh, further electrifying the buzz around Coolie.

Fans were quick to spot clever Breaking Bad references in the song. Famous lines like “Say my name” and “You’re goddamn right”—immortalized by Bryan Cranston’s Walter White—are sampled into the track, merging global pop culture with Kollywood swag. This creative integration is in line with director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s known admiration for shows like Breaking Bad and Peaky Blinders.

Lyrics Excerpt:
“Young Man, Young Man, Forever Man”
“Thalaivan Erangatumae, Saritham Eluthatumae”
“Rockstar With The Rapstar For The Superstar”

Anirudh, who has previously scored chart-toppers like Hukum for Rajinikanth in Jailer, once again strikes gold with Powerhouse. Arivu’s punchy lyrics highlight Rajini’s mass aura, blending Tamil rap, energetic chorus lines, and a youth-appealing tempo. The song has quickly become a fan-favourite, with social media celebrating its addictive rhythm and lyrical catchphrases.

The film’s music album, composed entirely by Anirudh, has now delivered three singles — Chikitu Vibe, Monica, and now Powerhouse. Each track carries its own flavour: while Chikitu Vibe leaned into a playful tone, Monica was a sizzling dance number featuring Pooja Hegde and Soubin Shahir with a lyrical nod to Italian actress Monica Bellucci. Powerhouse, in contrast, is the film’s thumping anthem for its lead hero.

Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, stars Rajinikanth in a role reportedly disconnected from the director’s famed Lokesh Cinematic Universe. The cast features an impressive ensemble — Akkineni Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and a cameo appearance by Aamir Khan as the mysterious character Dahaa.

The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner and is scheduled for theatrical release worldwide on August 14, 2025, just ahead of India’s Independence Day weekend.

With each release, Coolie continues to grow its footprint across fan communities and music charts. The soundtrack’s virality coupled with Lokesh’s stylish direction and Rajinikanth’s magnetic presence has made Coolie one of the most talked-about films of the year.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is also concurrently shooting for Jailer 2, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
