National Award-winning actor Vijay Sethupathi has categorically denied recent casting couch allegations that surfaced on social media, describing them as “filthy lies” and attention-seeking attempts intended to malign his reputation. The allegations were originally posted on X (formerly Twitter) by a user named Ramya Mohan, who claimed that the actor had offered monetary compensation in exchange for inappropriate favors.
In the now-deleted post, Ramya alleged that Vijay Sethupathi had offered ₹2 lakh for what she called a “caravan favour” and ₹50,000 for a “drive.” She further alleged that a young woman, whom she knows personally, was a victim of this exploitation and is now undergoing rehabilitation. The post also made sweeping claims about drug abuse and predatory behavior within the Tamil film industry, painting a grim picture of what she called the industry’s “transactional culture.”
Reacting to the allegations, Vijay Sethupathi gave a detailed statement to senior journalist Subhash K Jha for Deccan Chronicle, where he firmly rejected the claims. “Anyone who even remotely knows me would laugh at this. I know myself. This kind of filthy accusation can’t upset me,” said Sethupathi. He added that although his family and close friends were distressed by the accusations, he advised them not to worry. “Let her enjoy her few minutes of fame,” he said, implying that the post was a deliberate attempt to gain attention through controversy.
The actor also confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged with the cybercrime division. “A complaint has already been filed. Let the authorities take it forward. These kinds of lies are not new to me,” he said, hinting that such smear campaigns have followed him for years. Sethupathi believes the timing of the allegations is suspicious, as they coincide with the theatrical success of his recent film Thalaivan Thalaivii, which has been receiving praise for both his and Nithya Menen’s performances.
Ramya Mohan, meanwhile, has since deleted the post and stated that she shared it impulsively out of concern for the woman involved. She also expressed regret for the manner in which the information was revealed and stated that she did not intend for it to spiral into a public controversy.
As of now, no additional evidence has been presented to support the claims, and the alleged victim has not come forward with a statement. Authorities have yet to issue an official update regarding the cybercrime complaint filed by the actor. While the claims have ignited conversation on social media, many of Sethupathi’s fans and peers have rallied behind him, expressing support and urging due process.
Vijay Sethupathi, known for acclaimed performances in Super Deluxe, 96, Master, and more recently Maharaja and Thalaivan Thalaivii, has long been celebrated as one of Tamil cinema’s most versatile performers. Despite being no stranger to controversy, the actor appears determined to face the situation legally and maintain his professional integrity.
