In an era where Generative AI is rapidly blurring the lines between reality and digital artifice, veteran National Award-winning actor and filmmaker Radhakrishnan Parthiban has found himself at the center of a viral “authenticity” debate. Following the release of his character poster as ‘Nalla Nagappa’ in the highly anticipated Telugu film ‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’, fans were left questioning if the hyper-realistic, aged look was the work of a computer or the actor’s sheer dedication.
The Controversy of the ‘Digital’ Look
The official poster, released by Mythri Movie Makers, showcases Parthiban in a menacing avatar—sporting thick-rimmed sunglasses, a salt-and-pepper beard, and a traditional angavastram. The skin textures and lighting were so precise that social media users began speculating that the production team had used Artificial Intelligence (AI) or heavy “de-aging” filters to achieve the look.
Responding to these whispers with his signature wit, Parthiban took to X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight. Sharing a side-by-side comparison of a candid photo and his movie poster, he noted that while many actors today use AI or filters to look younger, his transformation into an older, fiercer character was the result of extensive makeup and physical preparation.
A Message to Director Harish Shankar
In a post written with a touch of humor and pride, Parthiban addressed the film’s director, Harish Shankar:
“Director Harish Shankar sir, the one on the left is the ‘right’ (real) Parthiban. Not AI. In an age where even older actors use ‘aunty-aging’ (anti-aging) to look younger, I wondered if you were trying to show me as an even older man with heavy makeup. But there is no room for doubt anymore.”
He further teased fans about his role as the antagonist, stating that while his character will face off against the hero (Pawan Kalyan), he plans to “take revenge” on the director in a fun way—hinting that the depth of his performance will be revealed when the film hits screens.
The ‘Power Star’ Factor
‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’ stars the “Power Star” Pawan Kalyan in the lead. The film has been one of the most talked-about projects in Tollywood, and Parthiban’s inclusion as the villain has added significant weight to the ensemble cast. The actor confirmed he has completed his dubbing for the film, expressing his gratitude to the producers and the technical team.
Countdown to March 26, 2026
The film is slated for a Grand Worldwide Release on March 26, 2026. With music by Devi Sri Prasad (DSP) and high-octane action sequences, the clash between Pawan Kalyan’s heroism and Parthiban’s “Nalla Nagappa” is expected to be a cinematic spectacle.
Parthiban’s clarification serves as a reminder that despite the rise of digital tools, the “magic of cinema” still relies heavily on the actor’s craft and the makeup artist’s brush. As the actor himself put it, the proof of his hard work will be evident on the “First Day First Show” (FDFS).
