The root of the crisis lies with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Misfortune continued to haunt the production when a crucial screening for the Revising Committee, scheduled for March 9, 2026, was cancelled at the last minute because a committee member fell ill. This unexpected delay was the final straw for Amazon. Contractual obligations in the OTT space often require a firm theatrical window to align with global marketing strategies. Without a confirmed date, and with industry insiders suggesting the film might not see daylight until after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in June 2026, the financial risk became too great for the streamer.
“The exit of a major partner like Amazon is a significant setback for a project with an estimated budget of ₹500 crore. It’s not just about the money; it’s about the market perception of the film’s ‘troubled’ status,” says a trade analyst.
