A Bittersweet Victory for the Team
The atmosphere at the recent press gathering for “Kenatha Kaanom” was a unique blend of triumph and nostalgia. Produced by Ramesh Babu under the RB Talkies banner, the film has struck a chord with audiences across Tamil Nadu. However, the man who envisioned this rural satire, Director Suresh Sangaiah—widely respected for his debut masterpiece “Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu”—was not there to witness the applause. His untimely demise prior to the film’s release cast a long shadow over the proceedings, yet his spirit lived on through the accolades the film is currently receiving.
Yogi Babu’s Emotional Pledge
Leading man Yogi Babu, who has transitioned from a quintessential comedian to a formidable lead actor, was visibly moved during his address. He noted that the film’s resonance with the public was the fulfillment of Sangaiah’s final dream.
“Director Suresh Sangaiah aspired for this film to reach a wide audience, and that vision has been realized today,” Babu remarked.
He took a moment to specifically laud the press and media, stating that their support is the “primary reason” a film can succeed even when the director is no longer present to steer the ship. Babu emphasized that the media’s constant encouragement allowed him to step out of his comfort zone. “I shall persist in acting, choosing roles that mirror the lives and struggles of ordinary people,” he declared, reaffirming his commitment to socially relevant storytelling.
Lovelyn Chandrashekar: A Rising Star’s Gratitude
The film’s lead actress, Lovelyn Chandrashekar, shared that the success brought “mixed emotions.” While she is thrilled by the positive reception to her performance, the void left by Sangaiah is palpable. She made a heartfelt plea to the industry and the public to extend whatever support possible to the late director’s family, emphasizing the human element behind the silver screen.
Behind the Scenes: Grit and Authenticity
Cinematographer V. Thiyagarajan and Editor Ramar provided insights into the rigorous production process. Thiyagarajan recalled the grueling summer shoots where Sangaiah’s dedication was unparalleled. Even while battling severe health issues and requiring IV drips, the director would return to the set immediately to ensure the vision remained intact. The technical team highlighted the authentic art direction by Surendar, which captured the rustic essence of village life so perfectly that it became a character in itself.
The success of “Kenatha Kaanom” stands as a testament to the fact that honest stories, rooted in the soil and told with passion, will always find their way to the hearts of the people, regardless of the hurdles faced during the journey.
