The journey of ‘Thamizhini’ begins with a foundation of critical acclaim. Following the massive success of the short film “Panayeri”—which secured the first prize at the prestigious Dubai International Short Film Competition—producer D.P. Saravanan (of Thisayanvilai) and director Ganesh Moorthy have reunited. While their previous work captured the arduous lives of palm-tree climbers, their maiden feature film venture dives deep into the salty breeze and rhythmic tides of the fishing hamlets.

The recently released First Look Poster (pictured) offers a striking, atmospheric glimpse into the film’s world. Set against a weathered blue wall of a traditional coastal home, the poster depicts a multi-generational family. The imagery is heavy with symbolism:

The film boasts a diverse cast, blending seasoned veterans with fresh, popular faces. Leading the charge is Deepa Shankar, renowned for her role in “Thalaivan Thalaivi”, alongside veteran actors Vincent Roy (Sathriyan fame) and Thirupachi Benjamin.
Injecting youthful energy into the narrative, the film features VJ Ashiq (Sun Music / Popular YouTuber) and Pradeep Raj (Royal Salute) as the male leads. They are paired with Shasha Sivakumar (Ratnam, Diesel) and S. Pushpa Latha, who rose to fame with the web series “Anbenum Auyudham”. Adding a touch of humor, the producer D.P. Saravanan himself steps in front of the camera for a comedic role.
Capturing the Southern Coastline
To ensure absolute realism, ‘Thamizhini’ was extensively shot across the picturesque and rugged coastal landscapes of Southern Tamil Nadu. Locations including Muttam, Uvari, Kadiyapattinam, Colachel, Thisayanvilai, Koottappanai, Periya Thazhai, and Manapad serve as more than just backdrops; they are living characters in the film.
“We wanted to capture the sweat, the salt, and the soul of the people who call the ocean their home,” the director remarked during the poster launch.
Musical Prowess and Technical Depth
The auditory landscape of the film is equally promising. Santosh Balaji, of Super Singer fame, has composed the score. The soundtrack features a “soft romantic melody” rendered by National Award winner G.V. Prakash Kumar and Saindhavi. The vocal lineup is further bolstered by popular talents like Sivaangi, Sam Vishal, and the composer himself.
Behind the lens, cinematographer Vijay Venkat (known for Scene No. 62) captures the raw beauty of the ocean, while director Ganesh Moorthy takes on the dual responsibility of editing.
With post-production moving at a brisk pace, ‘Thamizhini’ is shaping up to be a significant cultural document of the coastal life, wrapped in a commercial cinematic package.
