Who can ever forget the brilliant portrayal of Super Star Rajinikanth, Thengai Srinivasan, Sowkar Janaki, Poornam Viswanathan and Madhavi in veteran K. Balachander’s Thillu Mullu? You get to see the movie on the small screen at least once a week on one popular TV channel or another.
The decision to remake the movie incorporating today’s technology and trends seemed redundant, but when the cast was announced, it looked promising. Shiva, Prakash Raj, Kovai Sarala and Ilavarasu, all with impressive acting track records, have done justice to the original and director Badri has delivered an entertainer. Though it doesn’t reach the level of the yesteryear blockbuster, it is a commendable effort. Produced by S. Madhan’s Vendhar Movies, it features music by M.S. Vishwanathan and Yuvanshankar Raja. The popular hits ‘Thillu Mullu’ and ‘Ragangal Pathinaru’ have been retained. Director-actor Visu, who had written the dialogues for the original, filed a case assuming that the remake had featured the screenplay and dialogues from his work, but the court dismissed it after the makers confirmed that Thillu Mullu (2013) was in no way similar to the original in the mentioned departments.
Shiva’s film career has been successful so far with Chennai 600028, Saroja, Tamizh Padam and Kalakalappu. His Thillu Mullu is another success story!
This is an enjoyable family entertainer this season!
