The much-anticipated film ‘Idli Kadai,’ directed by Dhanush and initially scheduled for release on April 10, has been postponed. Speculation arose that the delay was due to a box-office clash with Ajith’s ‘Good Bad Ugly,’ which is set to release on the same date. However, producer Aakash Bhaskaran has now clarified the real reason behind the postponement.
Dhanush, who has established himself as both an actor and a filmmaker, has previously directed successful films such as ‘Pa. Paandi’ and ‘Raayan.’ His third directorial venture, ‘Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam,’ featuring his nephew Bhavish in the lead role, was released last month but failed to perform at the box office. Despite its realistic romantic storyline and modest budget, the film suffered a washout, especially when compared to the blockbuster ‘Dragon,’ which has reportedly grossed over ₹150 crore.
Following this setback, Dhanush moved on to his fourth directorial venture, ‘Idli Kadai,’ which also marks his 52nd film as an actor. Produced by Aakash Bhaskaran under the ‘Don Pictures’ banner, the film stars Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Prakash Raj, Samuthirakani, and Rajkiran in pivotal roles. With music composed by GV Prakash and cinematography by Kiran Kaushik, the film’s post-production is currently underway.
Originally planned for an April 10 release, the postponement of ‘Idli Kadai’ led to speculation that the decision was influenced by Ajith’s ‘Good Bad Ugly’ releasing on the same day. Fans and industry insiders speculated that Dhanush’s team wanted to avoid a direct clash at the box office. However, in a recent statement, producer Aakash Bhaskaran dismissed these claims.
He clarified that the delay was due to scheduling conflicts with some actors’ availability and that 90% of the filming has already been completed. “The movie has turned out well, and we do not want to rush its release. We have decided to postpone it for quality reasons, not due to external factors. A new release date will be announced within the next ten days,” he stated.
With this clarification, it remains to be seen when ‘Idli Kadai’ will hit the screens and how it will fare at the box office amidst the high expectations surrounding it.
