The musical journey of Idly Kadai (transl. Idli Shop), the much-anticipated Tamil-language drama directed by Dhanush, is officially underway. Taking to social media platform X, music director GV Prakash Kumar revealed that the film’s first single will be a romantic track sung by none other than Dhanush himself, alongside acclaimed playback singer Shweta Mohan.
“The first single from #IdlyKadai will be a love song… Sung by our dearest @dhanushkraja sir and Shwetha Mohan… Written by our @dhanushkraja sir… It’s my favourite track from the album,” wrote GV Prakash, sharing his excitement.
The composer also posted a video snippet of an intimate jam session with Dhanush, teasing fans with what seems to be a sneak peek into the melody, adding fuel to the already rising anticipation.
The film, titled after the humble South Indian breakfast staple, promises to serve more than just nostalgia. Idly Kadai marks another ambitious venture for Dhanush, who not only stars in the lead but also writes, directs, and co-produces the film under his home banner Wunderbar Films, in collaboration with Dawn Pictures.
Starring opposite Dhanush is Nithya Menen, known for her effortless screen presence and emotive performances. The supporting cast boasts a powerful ensemble including Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Sathyaraj, Parthiban, P. Samuthirakani, and Rajkiran.
The announcement of the song release has created a wave of excitement among fans and cinephiles, especially considering Dhanush’s history of penning emotionally resonant lyrics and delivering chart-topping hits including “Rowdy Baby”.
With GV Prakash calling it his “favourite track” from the album, the upcoming single is poised to be a potential hit both musically and emotionally.
The song is slated for release tomorrow, setting the stage for the promotional run of Idly Kadai, which is expected to hit theatres later this year.
